Waste Management

We are committed to reducing the waste generated in our operations by adopting the 3R approach. Our sites are advised to adopt waste management practices in compliance with national regulations. We are in the process of defining our KPIs both at the group level and at the business level to monitor the quantum of waste generated.

Though we are at a nascent stage with respect to our operations, we are conscious of the fact that we need to start developing the strategy and framework for the safe disposal of solar panels and wind turbines. ReNew is working with some of the leading academic institutions to identify and develop a sustainable approach to manage the waste to create and implement a circular economy. In order to develop effective renewable waste management framework, ReNew is also working with Indian policy makers to formulate suitable policy guidelines.

Emissions Management

ReNew is committed to becoming a carbon neutral company by 2050. In 2020, ReNew worked to develop its greenhouse gas inventory to map its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions within the operations. It plans to adopt the Science Based Targets (SBTi) framework to validate its emissions targets and mitigation strategies for off-setting carbon emissions within the operations and across the value chain.

Biodiversity Management

We proactively take initiatives in protecting our biodiversity. As per our ESMS, we are committed to causing the least disturbance to the local ecology of our sites. We strictly follow the recommendations of the ESIA with respect to ecology and we ensure that no additional clearance of land and vegetation takes place apart from the project footprint, and precautionary measures are taken so as not to disturb wildlife due to the movement of project vehicles and machineries.

We undertake bird and bat studies on the recommendations of our ESIA studies and take proactive measures like installation of bird guards and divertors on our transmission lines to mitigate bird collisions due to the same. We have robust internal monitoring and reporting through an online portal, taking data directly from our sites to assess the impact on avifauna due to our operations. We train our staff to monitor internally any incidence of bird collisions and report on regular basis.

A strong internal control mechanism has been put in place to ensure regular monitoring of the performances of our environmental indicators. The business units have internal environmental targets, which is monitored at the CMD level. ReNewers are encouraged to work on improvement initiatives using the IIFC framework.
